Pulsing Noise 900 1996

I have a pulsing noise from what seems to be behind the N\s of the dashboard on my 940 2.3 LPT. The sound pulses at engine speed at tickover it is probably still there at higher revs but not so noticable. I would presume it is a pump or pump control of some sort but I cannot hear it when I lift the hood.
The car runs well and I have no problems with it other than this annoying pulse sound
