When the 780 turbo gets tired, an obvious engine swap is the six cylinder from the 960/S90 series (those engine problems notwithstanding). It should fit lengthwise in the engine compartment since the 780 also came with a diesel six cyl. in some markets. Backing the six with a manual transmission, M46 or M47, would make a sweet running combination with plenty of response and smooth performance. These engine and manual transmission combinations were not available in U.S. markets, but were in Europe (at least that's my understanding). What I need is the bell housing part numbers that connect everything together (along with a lot of money, sweat, and new profanities). I would be greatful if anyone with those numbers can let me know so I can order one. After that, everything else is simple, right?
