Replacement antennas 200 1988

The power antenna on my '88 240DL is dead, and I don't want to spend the $100+ on another power antenna. I'd like to get good reception, and I need it be be able to withstand the slight beating it might take at a car wash. I tried replacing it with a "universal" antenna but it doesn't fit the hole very well and gets bent all to hell in the car wash.

Would you recommend any replacement antennas that are on the market? What about those short, flexible little black antennas that I've seen on some bricks? Do they get good reception, and what are the good brands?
