Urgent help with clutch install Please..... 200 1982

Hello, Trying to install new clutch components in my son's 82 244 DL. Need to know if there is something that is supposed to hold the release arm on the small ball opposite the point where the fork exits the transmission. The trans is out of an 86 DL and we have bought parts for an 86 240 DL. There is nothing I can see that will keep the release arm on the ball pivot point.
If you can help we would really appreciate it.
