Dead critter in the heater! 200

Jeez! You would think that Volvo had it figured out so that iddy biddy animals couldn't get into the heater to curl up and die. I had this happen in my VW van and it took 2 years for the smell to leave. So I don't know how this happened, but it did. The 93 240 was outside for about a week. When I opened the door yesterday, a reeking stink greeted me. I recognized it from my nightmare with the van. Is there any fairly easy way to take covers or whatever off to get at the heater ducting so I can scrape the dead body away? Or am I facing 2 years of foul rotten stench? Where do these little beasties get into the venilation system anyway? Is there a hole somewhere that I should plug up? Surely some others among you of this list have been cursed with the same calamity! HELP! Any suggestions for a truly effective air freshener would also be more than welcome!
