Finally finishing up my 89 240 project wagon. After putting all new front suspension parts - just about everything from a-z. I noticed I have the clicking associated with the steering u-joints either going bad or needing lube. I went through the 700 FAQs and a rear wheel drive search and found that many people try to lube them first before replacing, plus the bottom one is often the bad one?
I just tried a liberal application of PB blaster on them this afternoon - no luck yet. I noticed that Groton has them listed around $60 for both top and bottom. eeuropean only has a bottom one listed at $59. Since I'm going to have this 240 aligned soon, I might break down and buy the bottom or both and have my garage do it. The question is: How do you determine whether the top or bottom steering joint is bad?? And how bad of a job is this?
