1983 Volvo 242 DL 200 1983

Hello fellow volvoites, I'm a new, and very proud owner of a 1983 Volvo 242 DL. I love my car, and she's so special. I found out that most of the 7 owners that had her before me, all had her as their first car, just like me. She truly is special. I bought her in January, and after having her looked over by a volvo specialist, she was given a very clean bill of health. She'll need some body work and a new paint job, but the interior is fantastic. My problem is this. Quite recently, I had to have the rear shock replaced, and figured I may as well get both done at once. The day after, I noticed that my suspension was worse than ever, so back I went to Canadian T*** and insisted on a new left shock. further inspection proved that it was dented and blown. So another one was replaced, but to no satisfaction, that one too was no good. So I went back a third time. This time they spent over 2 hours looking inside my engine (??) and finally installed another shock. Well the suspension was better, however after driving on the highway, I stopped for a break, and minutes later could not start my car. Upon opening my hood, I noticed that the exhaust hose to my carburetor was disconnected and placed neatly behind my break fluid cylinder (most considerate)and the intake valve was disconnected as well. Coincidence? So...where was I forced to go again on a Sunday? You guessed it. Only this time I'm out of town, and committed to more expense. After two days of complete diagnostics, the mechanic (engine specialist) threw his hands up in exasperation and said I'd have to contact the dealer or go to a carburetor specialist. The fuel is burning too rich, even after the adjustment, and it will run with one spark plug removed, but will it run well enough to get me back home to have a mechanic look at it here, and then what?

Help!!!!
