Fuel sending unit question 200 1990

To make a long story short, yesterday when removing and replacing my in-tank fuel pump I discovered that the top of my sending unit was badly rusted. So much so that the fuel return outlet pipe actually broke at the base of the unit. Needless to say I now need a new sending unit as well as the pump. Always something....

Question: There is a small blurb in the 700/900 FAQ about disabling a spring on the pump. Anyone encounter any issues with that? When replacing the sending unit is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks all!
Jim
