Finally, 1980 Bertone 262 Coupe is running. 200

After 2-years of working I finally got the Brick to run. The engine, a B28F, was new and had not been fully installed when I got the car from an estate sale. They had installed the Distributor 2-teeth off for timing. Somehow the Ignition Control Unit got fried. The engine wiring was toast and not connected to the right components. When I went to remove the Lambda Sond relay for troubleshooting, it literally disintegrated in my fingers. The gas in the fuel tank was so old it wouldn't burn, even with a torch. The fuel filter was full of water and rust, from the fuel tank. The pressure bypass in the filter allowed the water and rust to get into the rest of the fuel components. I was lucky and only had to replace the fuel injectors. The spark plug wiring boots, on the distributor end, had been trimmed to almost nothing so they could be installed without removing the intake manifold. (Nice light show after dark.)

The lighting problems were the result of sitting and corroding. Except for the tail lights. Someone had installed 1156 bulbs for the tail lights instead of the 97 bulb called for. I guess they wanted them to be bright. The added heat warped the plastic tail light housings.

The only other important item I need to replace is the Fuel Tank Sending Unit. The terminal had rotted off of the unit and left the wiring hanging free.

Now I need to get in touch with whoever can provide me with the odds-n-ends I need to restore this Brick. Things like, interior fasteners for the trim and panels. Relay clips, tail light and front parking light assemblies. And maybe a replacement passenger seat?

I used to have a contact in Lancaster, PA but lost his information when my computer system crashed.

If anyone can help me with the parts I need, please reply here.

BTW: I found a great place for buying new parts for my car at www.autohausaz.com. For example: my injectors were $65 from the dealer and $25 from Autohaus AZ. Membership is free.
