Intermittent electrical failure 200 1988

Went to Sears battery dept and they checked my system and said my battery was OK but my alternator was bad. Didn't have one in stock so I went home and tightened the belt(alternator bolt was loose). The car has been running off and on for two months since.

It will start after sitting overnight but then after running ten minutes
I'll need a jump to get it going again. Could the alternator have a short?
The car always turns over so the starter connection is not a problem.

Advise would be apprciated because I'm too stubborn to bring it in again.

Thanks
Jim
