240 GL Sunroof problems 200 1989

Dear Volvo Friends,

My '89 240 GL started something wierd this evening. I was driving home in the clear starry night so I opened the sunroof to enjoy it. When I got home and tried to close the sunroof, it wouldn't go all the way home. It was probably 1 cm from seating correctly. As I messed with it by opening and closing it a few times, the gap grew wider and wider. Now it's probably a 10 cm gap, and the handle will not turn any farther. Has anyone experienced this? How do I fix it? The Bentley's only has instructions for removal of the sunroof and cables.
