Tail light problem?? 700

Can't seem to find anything wrong with the wiring. The lighting assembly(tail light)goes out completly on one side and then come back on at random times. The light buld indicater is on only when the actual lights are turned on and sometimes when I press the brake pedal. The PO had a uhaul class III hitch installed and they wired in the trailer lights, could this be where the problem is coming from.
