effects of dead knock sensor -- can anyone confirm? 900 1993

Hi,

My 93 940 (136k) with B230F and Rex/Regina has rather constant loss of power across the board since a couple of weeks. I have cleaned the PCV bottle (oil separator), replaced the flame trap (was almost clogged shut), cleaned the throttle body, checked air filter (6 months old and about 7k miles on it -- looks fine), changed the plugs and wires (new ones are Bougicords), checked for vacuum leaks, checked fuel pressure regulator (return hose has flow at idle, diaphram intact, return hose flow reacts to removing/applying vacuum to the regulator). Didn't look under the distributor cap yet. Plugs were very old, wires were disintegrating and the change of plugs and wires improved things a little bit (the engine sound is different), but the heart of the problem is still there.

The diagnostic port no.6 indicates code for wrong/missing knock sensor signal. The check engine light comes on every 1-2 weeks and the port no.2 indicates code for idle mixture too lean/rich when the check engine light comes on.

Can anyone with a good knock sensor (almost everyone out there I hope) and Rex/Regina system confirm that disconnecting a working knock sensor causes rather noticeable loss of power, at least in 750-3000 RPM range?

Thanks as always, Kuba
