I am the owner of a '82 240DL who is considering converting to R-134a. After dropping in on a local Gas station that services Volvo's I discussed the conversion with the Managers there (2 very nice guy's).The place seemed nice & well organised & the guys seem to have their $#!+ together so I will try them the next time I need service although I never went there before. They said the problem with the conversion is that you only get 80% even with the Volvo Kit & Auxiliary fan and what you would really need is a bigger condensor. I mentioned the brickboard posts that had high praise for the 134a conversions & they said that if you live in a cooler part of the country its OK but if you live where the summers are hotter & more humid like I do in NY it is never as cool as with R-12. So what I am looking for is feedback especially from folks from Texas,Fla,Louisiana & any HOT part of the country what their experience is.Also if it was a simple conversion (just O-ring seals,reciever/drier & new ester oil)or with the Volvo kit( which adds larger evaporator, temp valve,High side hose, Butyrate Insulation). Please lets forget the "El crappo" kit I see in the stores for the purpose of this discussion.Thank you in advance.
