gearbox flashing lights 900 1991

I have the problem of intermittent flashing gearbox selector lights. Also
winter mode selector on dashboard. This doesn't always occur and it doesn't seem to affect gearbox performance. I've read the error codes which come up ith
143 Oil temp sensor open circuit, and 311 RPM signal from transmission missing.
Surely the gearbox wouldn't operate normally if the second fault was present. Anybody have any ideas? Is it worth changing the fluid? (120,000 miles)
