Why doesn't Volvo use timing chains instead of timing belts? 200

This might be a very basic question, but I've been wondering this for quite some time. Why doesn't Volvo use timing chains on their cars instead of timing belts? Especially with their interferance engines. Wouldn't a timing chain be more reliable and just as cost effective over the life of the car? I'm sure there is a logical answer, but maybe not.
