Rheostat busted again 200 1991

I cleaned the fuses and while putting them back burned the rheostat. This is a new one. The last time this happened when I was replacing the radio. The symptum is that all instrument lights are out.

I am thinking of jump across the device and forget about addusting brightness of the instrument light. I seldom do that anyway.

Is this a right thing to do? My car is a 95 245 SE model.
