Spotters on the highway 700 1989

Hi to all and thanks to all that has helped me in the past
went to a volvo dealership some distance away from were I live to speak with a manager about my aunts v70 which has been giving us some trouble and after 30 minutes of highway driving on the way home in my 740 gl wagon I noticed it started to spotter or a slight misfire over 2500 rpm the car runs smooth anywere lower than 2500 rpm so I came off the highway an parked the car, open the hood and made sure all plug wires were in contact and I rev the engine to hear a loud back fire so i turned the car off for about ten minutes. When I started the car again it ran perfectly fine does anyone know what the deal is it takes a little long to start but I think the timing is were it should be no loss of power no more back fires nothing
Thanks in advance.
