repacing transmission on 240dl 200 1989

i AM about to replace an automatic transmission . This transmission has a slot in the top of the bellhousing for the tdc or timing sensor . I was given another transmission as a replacement . However, this trans has no slot for the sensor . Can the sensor be bypassed or relocated as obviously the timing sennsor was not located at the flywheel for the 'new' transmission ?
