Shiftlock microswitch 900 1993

I am using the shiftlock override to shift out of park. I found the suspect shiftlock microswitch on the passenger side of the auto trans shift lever on my 1993 940. What is this switche's function? The little metal blade on the bottom of the switch seems only to be engaged with the shift lever pin when the shifter is in the reverse gear position.
I found bridging the terminals on top of this switch allows me to shift out of park. Is this switch "made" when the little blade and plunger is pressed in or when it is out? Do I have the right switch?
If so, how much is a new one?
