fan control knob 200

On my '79 244 dl the fan control knob doesn't turn the fan on. When you turn it you can hear a clicking sound in between the numbers. It sounds like it is getting electricity and trying to send it somewhere but nothing happens. I was thinking of just trying to change the control from one at pick-n-pull and seeing what that did. Anyone know anything about changing the fan control knob? Any other suggestions let me know...Thanks----Paul
