today I was driving and the car in front of me stopped and I slammed on the brakes. It was weird, first time to really do something like that. all the stuff I had in the backseat flew to the floor.I had 2 soda bottles back there and when they hit the floor I thought someone slammed into me! I looked in my rearview mirror and saw some smoke and I smelled burned rubber! I pulled into a resedential street and checked my car and put things back in place. I realized the G-force actually pulled the sunroof sunshade closed (I had it pushed back cause I opened the sunroof). Now this sunshade doesn't slide forward and back on ball bearings, so it must have been some STOP to overcome the friction! The tires I have are fairly new, and I didn't see any noticeable damage or wear on them. My front brake pads are like only 6 months old. Well, now I know I have good brakes! Anyhow, that scared the *bleep* out of me!
Now, can such an abrupt stop put stress on the suspension, engine mounts, tranny and overall body of the car AND ESPECIALLY the brakes (pads, rotors)? Anything to worry about? Thanks!
