Hello All:
I recently installed IPD rear overload springs on my 93 245. Heard a scraping, "boing" noise from the passenger side, but no one at IPd or the Brickboard raised any alarms. So drove for about 3K miles. Yesterday upon installing new brake pads, I noticed that the bolt holding the "thingy" (rear flange?, rear guard?) on the ATE caliper was rubbing on the thicker IPD spring. It had worn down a notch in the spring and it itself was worn down. I used the "Mexican Mechanic" method..just removed it. Am I in for trouble?
I notice that Girling rear calipers do not have this "thingy". I believe their function is to limit axle deflection during hard accelerations. Correct?
Should I take off the driver's side also?
Or should I find some way to reinstall it?
