There seem to be plenty of fuel lines under my 245 DL stationwagon when finally rust got to one of them. I had a heck of a time staunching the flow from tank and the mechanic's guide didn't tell me that even with tank pressure turned off it wouldn't matter... luckily I had some needle nosed vice grips to cut off flow .
Now after a few fill-ups, and leak stopped, my car stalls and isn't either getting enough fuel and my first suspicion was an contractor I had differences with just prior might have poured sugar in my gastank....but it seems unlikely as it was out in front of my fav. coffee shop in broad daylight so I think I am just paranoid. Most likely the rusty line I repaired about 3 weeks ago might have gotten rust into fuel line or something (my third scenario is the timing belt... but it does start for a few seconds and turns off (ignition timing?)
Some fuel is getting there but not enough... being that I am getting rusty lines, my first choice is to change fuel filter, blow out lines...replace more of them....but if I need a timing belt that'll be a week without a car...so I'd better get a rental... but first I am confused Why is there are so many fuel lines...???
the one line I repaired last month was a thick one directly from the tank to the front of the car... and it had mucho gas in it... but bypassed the Filter underneigh... What the Heck is that going to...????
The filter is connected to a small pump in a cage which makes it hard for the do-it-selfer to get at filter... (Take off Cage first???) 12mm socket needed... the "Banjo" nuts seem to need 18mm wrenches/// and I am assuming that if there are Impurities in my tank: clogged up rust, or doubtfully Sugar... my first sense it'll be noticed in the filter.. but it seems to be a closed container...what am I looking for????
These gas lines are confusing? I am counting so far two going to the front of the car... and there are other lines I don't know what they are.. two brake lines and the other (vacumn? or gas... ) the book doesn't explain what that steel fat gas line was for since the other gas line comes out of the Filter?
Doing this on the damp ground with just jacks is pretty sucko.. but try getting a mechanic on the weekend and the rentals are far and few between right now. I had to pay 70 bucks to tow it home.. but the last time I towed it the mechanic took 3 whole days to get to a minor Ujoint job... so I am trying this one myself .... (like the water filter and alternator I've already fixed on my Vulva To It All which I bought for only 500 bucks total 2 years ago....figuring I'd rather drive a Classic with payments to the local economy (mechanics) than payments to the bankers for a boring lightweight car that is maybe more reliable but with monthly payments....)
Any suggestions on gas filter and line repairs or gas tank cleaning out in event of "impurities" accidently or purposely put in there.. .(the least likely scenario is sugar I am hoping...) my others are ignition, timing belt, and that damned inside the tank pump.... My weekend's shot I guess.
