Interesting problem on my '87 240 GL - I think I know what's causing it but I don't know why.
I just changed the water pump and radiator last weekend to solve constant leaking. So far the coolant system seems rock solid after a week of daily driving (and a trip to San Jose). But now it's doing something strange.
When idling for a few minutes, such as at a light or in a drive-thru, the fuel gauge will slowly drop. At the same time, the temp gauge will increase, to right below the red (but never going into the 'hot' zone). When I get up to speed again, the temp gauge falls, and the fuel rises to what I'm assuming is the correct level. Neither of these symptoms were present before I worked on it last weekend.
I'm assuming this has something to do with the belt assembly I had to remove last weekend, but I'm not quite sure where to start. Any help would be great.
TIA,
Eric
