How do you mount a new tailgate on a 245 and get it to line up? 200 1987

OK, i think the subject line sums it up. I bought a 91 door for my 87. The old door had some pretty bad rust at the base. This one looks spotless. Anyway, I replaced all the wiring, put in new grounds, mounted the door to the car, and it's still off. The left side is still open about a quarter inch, while the right side looks good. Any ideas/tricks/rituals that will help this come together?
