Hello folks,
I am new to this forum. I am not new to Volvo and do most all of the work myself.
Nevertheless, I have a nagging Cold Start/Cold Idle/Cold Running problem.
The car has 193,984km. It is a 1976 244DL, with a B21E (2.1L, Fuel Injected) Engine . . . No EGR System, No Catalytic Converters, etc., Automatic Transmission.
I have replaced all Vacuum Hoses, all Ignition System Components, changed the Fuel Distributor P/N 0438 100 005/234 987 526 and cleaned inside Air Flow Meter/Fuel Sense Plate P/N 0438 120 005/525 and resealed without disturbing anything, checked Cold Start Fuel Injector, cleaned Manifold Vacuum Fittings, replaced Fuel Pressure Regulator P/N 0438140 004 with Rebuilt, Replaced Auxiliary Air Slide Valve Part Number 0280 140 106 with (new) P/N 0280 140 133, had CO Mixture set to 2.0%, et cetera.
I have done just about everything imaginable, but the car starts take several cranks and slight depression and/or modulation of the Gas Pedal to get it started. Once it is started, it idles roughly and low RPM, maybe 500 to 700. I do not sit and idle, because it causes too much engine wear. When I put the Automatic Transmission in D, it will take off very slowly. I could be standing on the Gas Pedal and it would not make any difference. Typically, I will ever so slightly modulate the Gas Pedal, up or down and in about 1 to 2 minutes, the car will surge and takeoff and accelerate and drive normally. I have absolutely no problem with subsequent starts, idling, or drivability. The car will operate 100%. Fuel Economy is acceptable, at approximately 13.1mpg to 14.6mpg City and 21.3mpg Highway.
If anybody has experienced the same or has any clues what I may have overlooked or how to correct this problem, I would be forever grateful. When I replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator and Auxiliary Air Slide Valve, just yesterday and started the car this morning, the car started and idled or slightly better . . . Not good enough for $305.75 in parts! Not what I had expected.
Thanks in advance . . .
