Continuously rattling shift knob 200

I have the overdrive with the sliding overdrive switch. The plastic cover on the top of the shift knob cracks and then vibrates. When I can't stand the rattling any more I get a new one(not cheap). It'll last a few months until it cracks again and the cycles continues. I know I'm not the only one to have this problem and there must be one of you genii that has figured out a solution.
