1989 740 Posi rear axle 700

I have a 1989 740 turbo and am thinking of converting the rear axle to a posi rear. Don't know the gear ratio, can't find the tag on the shaft of the housing yet. My question is, is this a feasible modification? I spoke to a couple of very competent Volvo mechanics and they told me that the turbos in the 700 series have a habit of blowing out the posi rears that were installed after market even using OEM parts. Anyone have any ideas?
