I was hoping to introduce myself to the brickboard under better
circumstances but...

I had some excitement on my way to work this morning...A city worker was
cutting grass next to the road with a huge John Deere tractor/flail
mower and hit a pile of railway bed gravel (the big stuff). This usually
wouldn't be a big deal, however I was stopped at a stoplight directly
across from him in my 1980 DL (with only 89K miles and ALL original
paint). About a dozen 2" rocks hit the side of my car, leaving chips and
dents in both doors and a few nicks in the F/R fenders. The city worker
responded with a "Whoops" and an amusing (to him) story about how he
broke the windshield on a Lincoln earlier in the year. He called his
foreman who told me to get three bodyshop quotes and they'd pay for it.
Fair enough. Should I believe him and get the quotes or should I just go
through my insurance company? Also, the bodyshops were wanting to use
base/clear paint on the side of my car...I'm no expert on paint but
wasn't Maroon in 1980 an enamel? How will it look with the mixed paint
techniques? The car isn't a show car, but I'm the second owner and it
was garage kept by the original owners, an elderly couple who babied it.
It is a straight, clean car and gets a lot of smiles.
