Glove-box knobs-old style 200 1983

Hi!

With the advent of summer here in SE VA, the plastic/rubber surrounds on the glove-box knobs on our two 83s have decided to call it quits. While it may seem like a small thing to some, my better half (who still loves her old 245) hates the look of the metal "geary thing" (technical term) that remains sticking through the door of the glove-box.

Anybody know how/where to get a replacement without having to buy the whole new lock assembly as shown in ipd catalog (for around $40)? The locks and latch assemblies still work fine . . .

I have thought about updating to the newer style lock and knob, and then have the assembly rekeyed to match the door/ignition--but would I also need the new door and box? I seem to remember the latch depth being different.

Any advice, BDTDs would be appreciated . . . .

Oh, BTW, changed out the crappy MTC upper strut bearing yesterday . . . the learning curve must be flattening out--3 hours, start to finish. Thanks to all who provided advice--it's greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Steve A-
