Ball Joints & Control Arm Bushing (No 700/900 experience. Yet) 900 1993

You folks led me to my Motor Mount problem (not tranny, as I feared). Now on to my next concern: I took the control arm off, but could get neither the bushing nor ball joint out when I replaced strut rod front bushings recently. The bushing actually appears OK, but the ball joint rubbers are shot. They are probably thr 127k originals and I hear some clunks going slowly over small bumps.

I have a 20 ton press, and have done lots of 200 bushings over the years, but got nowhere with these guys. My feeling is that it has to do with the arm being an Aluminum forging--plus my belief that this car sat unmoved for a long time in its recent past. This based on the rust blooming under the car on exhaust, metal edges, bolt ends, rotors, etc. (I bought stupidly based on shiny side and interior appearance.)

Are there any special tricks here?
How about a little heat while in the press (Propane, Mapp, Mapp/Oxygen)?
