My radio won't come on-antenna stuck 12" out. No power. 700 1990

I just bought my 740GL sedan. The radio is dead. The fuses seem good. Is the antenna tied into the power to prevent the operation of the radio in any way? What do I do before buying a new radio? Thanks, Roger
