Imaging; I was leaving work yesterday, the engine started with a clunk I thought was an exhaust manifold backfire. Id stopped at the signal light then proceeded on to the freeway in rush hour traffic. Stepped on the brake for slowing traffic and the pedal went to the floor. Narrowly missed rear ending the car that was (thankfully) six car lenghts ahead as I pulled for dear life on the emergency brake handle. Had the brick towed home and found that the right motor mount had split and the engine had shifted so the AC compressor bracket sliced through the right front wheel to ABS line. In my attempt to remove the metal line, the one to the ABS unit came off easily, but down at the wheel, every successive nut rounded off under pressure- after half a can of PB blaster! What's up with that- I've not had those things round off so easily. Any ideas why? Because of work/holiday schedules I made the tough decision to tow it to a mechanic- I hate defeat! Second question- any recommendations on a mechanic in St. Charles/O'Fallon Missouri area? I have done most all the work myself, I called 5 independent shops and none would work on a Brick. My favorite comment from one mechanic " I don't work on them- they're weird". So; my brick is at the shop!
