After about a year of just sitting in my garage, I rolled "Olga" out into the driveway and reinstalled some of the exhaust I had removed. After a quick jump from my roommate, she started up and sounded fine. With my roommate trailing behind in the Expedition, I ventured out on a trip 'round the block. She never stalled, the brakes were a bit grabby, and there are (still) some acceleration issues. When I pulled back in the driveway, my roommate informed me the brake lights on my new taillights didn't function. I had forgotten to plug them in. So I plugged them in, but... Still no brake lights. The turns and the markers worked, but the was no current going to the brake section of the new foils. I peered around for a little bit under the dash, poked and prodded the switch... I tested the current across the terminals. About 3/10th's of a volt trickled through the switch. I checked the fuses, all fine. Is there a relay sending voltage to the switch I should check? I'm stumped. I cannot figure for the life of me why there's only .30 volts going to the switch! Anyway, issue two... I know she needs a serious tuneup (plugs, wires, cap, rotor and timing). When I got her, she had the air meter disconnected and the idle turned wayyyy up to compensate. I got a rebuilt Venom unit, and tried my best to guesstimate the idle settings, but, she still runs al ittle high. With the tranny in Park, she'll rev like there's no tomorrow. But, slip her in gear, and she really doesn't want to accelerate. Yugo's would win in a race against me. Could this be an issue of poorly set idle and timing? Or could it be more of a low transmission fluid level problem? Or both?
