Hollow sound coming from rear of car when stopping..... 200 1979

In my '79 244 DL I recently started hearing a hollow sound coming from the rear of the car when I come to a stop. I am thinking that it is either my brakes or my rear axle. I haven't looked at anything yet. I am just looking for some suggestions at where to start and maybe someone has had this happen to them and can lead me in the right direction......Thanks..Paul.
