Engine bay questions 200 1984

First: What is the cylindrical shaped object mounted to the engine under the intake manifold? It has two hoses coming off of it, one leading ???, the other leading to the air intake tube. It has a black electrical connector on the back of it. Just curious.

Second, in the same general vicinity of the above mentioned object, there is a light brown colored wire with a transparent electrical connector on it. Is this supposed to be connected to something somewhere?

Any specific wiring diagrams available online?
