Got new rebuilt Air Mass Meter but idle's a little rougher now?? for lots of reasons... 200 1986

Eh, the saga continues.

The car runs okay but not as well as before and probably more my fault than anything else:

Reasons other than recalibrated, rebuilt and guarranteed AMM are:

One reason is that mice moved into the air cleaner houseing which I discovered upon checking AMM. I kept the same damn air filter when I shouldn't have. The mice had knawed miniscue little rips in some of the pleats. I vacumned the thing and not seeing the little rips figured it be okay for a few days until I bother to get a new one.

I vacumned the debris out of the housing but didn't get All of it it seems.

After a couple of days of less than decent idleing and occasionally rideing the clutch when it was cold, I am getting a little peeved as I want my old Volvo back. I rechecked the housing and read the Haynes troubleshooting guide and they suggested among many things the air flow flap not working well is one reason for bad idleing. Hmmm there are two ports into houseing and the engineering seems a little strange as one port from hose to exhaust housing (where i think the mice came in..?) is always open where as port to front grill has a very Stiff spring loading hinged flap. Another defect is the seal around that one is eaten away slightly. The spring is either temp controlled or air resistance, I don't know which. Also, there could be a more controlling air flow flap in throttle body area, perhaps, they are mentioning (behind AMM)?

As for new AMM when I checked the hose to it there was a tiny couple of leaf flecks from the erstwhile mousenest.... meaning my cheap leaving the old filter in let some little debris in the damned AMM probably. So I can't blame the new AMM for my troubles.

Other things. I need to check my flame arrester, clean whatever else. (I put another new gas filter after only about a year on the recent one after my gas vacumn line leak which I thought caused the stall...not knowing about the AMM frequency of failures..(second or third in my car according to records..) Throttle Body cleaning? And also simple resetting of idle (as before I think I complained to a mechanic it was too fast .....and maybe he adjusted it down.. and I need to reset for a new AMM?

Anyway. two basic questions: 1. do new AMMs often cause a dissimilar idle to prior AMMs? (In my case, consider the mice damage, dirty fuel injectors or other things too....) 2. what doesn that spring loaded air flow flap do in the air cleaner housing. (next to my table, I've got it out and will attempt to derust some of it and clean and lube better this time....)

....'course, I'll get a new air filter asap.. (I put some tape over the offending little hairline tears so no more debris gets to sensitive components... and although only about a year old it was dirty enough to block light in a lot of places ... (p.s. I have no idea how long mouse nest was there...but only had my car inactive in last two weeks...but for 3 days in the shop in Spring for bad u-joint earlier this year....Man, that mechanic was slow!! which is why I am doing this stuff more and more on my own.)
