Anoying Hum Caused by old Water Pump??? 700 1990

i bought a 740T about 10mnths ago and its been a pretty good, quick car and reliable for the most part(only an oil leak, lights going out occasionally)But this car as always had a fant hissing, hum coming from underneath the car and my dad said its the water pump or fuel pump. he said our old 240 had the same problem(b4 i wrecked it doing a 360 across a 4 lane highway, ultimately hitting the median) anyway i just wanna know if others have had this problem or even its fixable because i cant take that hum any longer. thanks !! brian
