motor mounts on 95 945 900

I have a 95 945 with 72 K miles... Ride of car still excellent.. Clearance Of oil filter to cross memeber is only a bout 1/4 inch(less than in past couple yrs).. I know when the motor mounts go..the oil filter may sit on the cross member...my question...what is that normal clearance??? sounds like I should replace them... I know in the FAQ there are several ways to approach these.. Id prefer to lift the engine from below...any recommendations on this next project??? after the heater hose debacle maybe I should take a break.. JOHN
