740 in tank pump removal tips? 700 1989

Well, I went through the 700FAQ and have everything ( all panels) out to expose the big plastic nut for the fuel tank. I did a 240 pre-pump years ago and this seems a bit different.

The sender and pump assembly go in at an angle?? Although the mount is at the top of the plastic tank? Will fuel spill when removing it and what other tips can I do to make this one goes well! I hate working with fuel! The battery is disconnected!

The sad thing is this is my brother-in-law's car and he doesn't have the dough to fix it. So it found its way to my garage as usual. I happened to have a new pre-pump on the shelf for my 88 740 wagon that never needed one.

Symptoms are stalling out and stalling with low levels of gas - have replaced the fi relay last summer and cleaned the throttle body also. Pretty sure it's the pre-pump causing it. THe car will start right up after it quits.

Give me some tips on this one
