Trying to silence engine noise 200

I hope someone knows how to get rid of the engine racket in an 84 240. I've used a product called peal n' seal on all the doors, which really cut down on wind noise, but the engine noise is really getting to me. I bought my sister an 85 240, and it seems to run more quietly. Is there a major difference between 84 and 85? Thanks for any advice.
