760 turbo starting and driving problems 700 1985

I have a '85 Volvo 760 turbo automatic wagon and the car was just giving to me with some problems similar to what’s happening now. I have replaced both fuel pumps, injectors, and fuel regulator. The car has a hard time starting with out me pumping the gas and when it does start I have to keep pumping the gas to keep it around 2000 RPM then when I try to go past that the RPMs go up to about 3000 or so then it makes a backfiring type sound and the engine almost dies until I pump it some more. When it does the backfiring thing the turbo meter drops back. I though that was bad bearings in the turbo so I replaced that and it's still happening. When it warms up a little after pumping it at 2000 RPM for a while it'll mostly stops the backfiring or what ever the noise is but when I start to drive it's really slow and I get up to about 20 MPH and it starts knocking/backfiring again. I have found that if I put it in neutral and rev up the RPMs to redline and slam it into drive I can get it up to 30 MPH and then it seems to do okay except for poor performance at lower RPMs. I was driving it for a while with the over drive off and using the little trick with neutral to get around, but it's really bothersome and makes take off really difficult. If anyone can help, I would much appreciate it. Thank you.
