245 rear track width vs, 240 rear track width? 200

I may be seeing things, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the rear track on a 245 is wider than a sedan... Is that true? If so, would the 245 axle bolt up to a sedan without complication? If it does, then I believe it would solve a part of the suspension/handling upgrade equation without having to resort to wheel spacers which pose a safety risk (no matter how well they're built).
