Info and question.
I just bought a 1990 740 turbo for cheap because it had so little power you could hardly drive it. I pulled the hose of the turbo and found I could not spin the blades by hand. I removed the turbo, found the wastegate rod had fallen off. The blades would barely turn using a 10mm socket on the shaft nut. I diassasembled the turbo and found it contaminated with coked oil. I soaked the parts in gas overnight. After cleaning all the parts with carb cleaner I put it back together and the blades spun easily with no play in the bearings. I put the car together and it has lots of power and boost and runs great. It now however smokes very badly. There is oil in the intake ducting that is clearly coming from the turbocharger. My question is what is involved in putting new seals in a mitsubishi TD04 turbocharger? Majestic Turbocharger of Dallas quoted me $85.00 for an overhaul kit for the TD04. Any of you guys done it? Any advice? Thanks.
Malcolm.
