240 overheating in traffic... 200

Greatings,

my 240 has a tendancy to get quite hot when idling in heavy stop and go traffic for extended periods of time during the summer. Turning the heater on and off reduces the temperature and keeps it at about 9 o'clock. Once the traffic starts to move again the temperature is normal (9 o'clock w/o having to use the heater). Once I also tried reving the engine btwn 1500 and 2000rpm for a few minutes and the temp started to drop.

The cooling fins on the rad look reasonably clean on the exterior, so I don't think it's that. I'm guessing the rad is old and slowly developing internal blockage. Any ideas?

How long will, if required, it take to install a new rad? Any tricks or tips to know about?

Thanks in advance,

Jaak
