Overheating on 1988 240GL 200

My daughters 1988 240GL is running hot (hotter than normal) - sometimes getting up towards the red area. I was going to change the thermostat and radiator cap (will this help?) and then noticed in an earlier post that maybe the fan clutch may be the problem.

When cool the clutch provides some resistance (however not much). After running the car and warming up to operating temperature (about 5 minutes in our weather) the resistance is noticeably less. Does this mean it needs help?

Haven't perused all the postings and archives yet but I thought I would as fellow bricksters for input.

Many thanks - Ted in Albuquerque
