I've got a 1982 240 Turbo with a crack in the cat on the inside of the bend between the cat itself and the turbo just after the link up with the turbo. I am on a budget, but need to fix this crack. I was wondering if any of you had any recomendations. I plan to do the proceedure myself, I have suficent knowledge to do so. basically my question is two fold. DO you have any tips or tricks for the procedure itself, in terms of getting the cat off clean (the bolts dont seem to be rusted too badly, a little liquid wrench should do), things to look out for. And i am also wondering the most economical way to go about it. I have found cats online for about $160, i havent suveyed any junk yards or volvo performance places in my area (amherst, ma) as of yet. I was also thinking about asking one of the aforementioned volvo shops to weld it up for me. any thoughts?
also does anyone know of any independant one man operations in my area who might be a better hookup than a full specialty garage.
