Crankshaft position sensor? 700 1989

Still having an intermittant, stall, no start problem with the 740 after replacing the rsr and fixing the connector to that. Drove just a few blocks and hit a bump and it died, didn't want to start. On impulse I disconnected the crank position sensor connector at the firewall and reconnected it and it started, died, wiggled connector again, started, died etc. I did get it home and it's currently starting and idling ok. Noticed the rubber insulation was pulled back some and that it had a foil shield inside. I peeled a bit of that back and found a white and a pink wire and a bare wire. Is this correct? Being a broadcast engineer I know the value of having a shield or "drain" wire on a connector but I've never seen it in a car before. I felt along the wire to the sensor itself and it feels like the insulation is worn where it goes into the sensor. Thinking this is the intermittant stall, no start problem. Doesn't look too bad to change. Any advice?
Ben
