85 244 stutters and sometimes lurches at low speeds but runs ok at hiway speed 200

it chugs and misses when cold then after it warms up the missing seems to go away but then the lurching and stuttering comes intermittedly usually at low speeds ,once when i wwas backing up i thought the tranny was gone because of the clunk sound.if it is a fuel pump wouldn't just cut out entirely?and it doesn't matter how much gas is in the tank.any body ever have this happen......kris
